Tragic Four-Wheeler Crash in Alexandria Claims Life of 6-Year-Old, Leaves Three Other Children Injured

ALEXANDRIA, La. — A heartbreaking tragedy unfolded on the evening of June 18, when a crash involving a four-wheeler and a car left a 6-year-old child dead and three other children injured in Alexandria. The Alexandria Police Department (APD) confirmed the devastating news, stating that the collision occurred around 6:36 p.m. at the intersection of Culpepper Road and North Boulevard.

According to authorities, the four-wheeler was driven by a 12-year-old child, with three passengers onboard—ages 10, 6, and 4. APD reports that the four-wheeler failed to stop at a stop sign, resulting in a violent collision with a vehicle traveling through the intersection.

All four children were ejected or thrown from the ATV in the crash. The 6-year-old child later died from injuries sustained in the collision after being rushed to a local hospital. The 12-year-old driver and the 10-year-old passenger remain in critical condition, while the 4-year-old suffered minor injuries.

Police also confirmed that none of the children were wearing helmets at the time of the crash—a factor that may have contributed to the severity of their injuries.

The incident has shaken the Alexandria community, prompting a powerful statement from Police Chief Chad Gremillion, who personally responded to the crash scene:

“Our hearts hurt anytime someone is injured or killed. I personally witnessed the tireless efforts of the first responders from the Alexandria Fire Department and Pafford Ambulance, as well as the emergency staff at Rapides Regional ER — they gave everything they had.

The Alexandria Police Department extends its deepest condolences to the family of the child who lost their life and sends thoughts and prayers to the injured children and their loved ones during this difficult time.”

Chief Gremillion also issued a stern warning to the public about the dangers of operating all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) on city streets, saying:

“Let me be clear: riding an ATV on city streets is illegal and a recipe for disaster. These vehicles are not designed for road traffic, and the consequences can be tragic. I beg our community to quit putting innocent lives at risk.”

As the Alexandria Police Department continues to investigate, the focus now turns to support and healing for the families affected by this senseless tragedy. Community members have already begun expressing their sorrow and calling for greater education and enforcement regarding ATV safety.

The loss of a young life and the critical injuries of two other children serve as a sobering reminder of the importance of proper safety precautions, especially when it comes to youth and recreational vehicles.
