Deadly Crash Blocks US 301 in Alachua County, One Person Killed

HAWTHORNE, Fla. — A tragic accident has claimed at least one life in Alachua County after a deadly crash occurred Wednesday on U.S. Highway 301, near Southeast Hawthorne Road. Emergency crews and law enforcement rushed to the scene as reports came in of a serious collision along the busy highway.

According to the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, one person was pronounced dead as a result of the crash. Officials have not yet released the identity of the victim pending notification of next of kin. Details regarding the number of vehicles involved or what led to the crash remain limited at this time.

As of this report, single lanes are blocked in both directions, significantly slowing traffic in the area. Deputies are urging motorists to avoid the stretch of US 301 near Hawthorne Road and seek alternative routes as investigators work the scene and crews begin the cleanup process.
