Remains Found Near Lake Ashbaugh Identified as Jessica Paige Kemp

PARAGOULD, Ark. — A heartbreaking chapter has come to a close in Greene County as authorities have confirmed that human remains found last week southwest of Lake Ashbaugh are those of Jessica Paige Kemp, a 34-year-old woman who had been reported missing for over a month.

The confirmation came Wednesday from Greene County Sheriff Brad Snyder, who told NEA Report that the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory made the positive identification and shared their findings with the Greene County Coroner’s Office. The coroner then notified Kemp’s mother of the tragic news.

Kemp was last seen on May 5, at a campsite west of Lake Ashbaugh near Delaplaine, according to the Greene County Sheriff’s Office. Her vehicle and personal items were later discovered abandoned in the area, prompting a widespread search effort that included law enforcement and local volunteers.

The remains were discovered at approximately 1:45 p.m. on June 9 by a member of a civilian search party, who was accompanied by a Greene County detective. A strong odor commonly associated with decomposition led them to a remote wooded area, where skeletal remains in an advanced state of decomposition were found. Due to the condition of the remains, the State Crime Lab was called upon to make a formal identification using forensic methods.

“While this is not the outcome any of us wanted, we are grateful to have some answers for Jessica’s family,” said Sheriff Snyder. “Our hearts go out to them as they now begin the difficult process of grieving.”

At this time, no additional details regarding the autopsy or the cause of death have been released. Sheriff Snyder noted that the final autopsy report could take additional time due to the condition of the remains and the complexity of the forensic analysis.

The investigation remains active, with the Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division, Company F, assisting in the case. However, the Greene County Sheriff’s Department remains the lead agency in the ongoing inquiry.

Jessica’s disappearance drew significant concern throughout the region, with friends, family, and community members holding out hope for her safe return. Social media campaigns, search parties, and public pleas for information highlighted the widespread effort to bring her home.

In the wake of this tragic discovery, the community is mourning a life lost far too soon. Kemp is remembered by those who knew her as a free spirit who loved nature, camping, and spending time near the water—passions that tragically became intertwined with her final days.

A memorial service is expected to be announced by the family in the coming days. Meanwhile, investigators continue to pursue all leads to determine the circumstances that led to her death.

Rest in peace, Jessica Paige Kemp. May your family find comfort, and may justice and answers follow in your memory.
